  • GSR bent exhaust valves?

    Hey guys,

currently swapping a da9 project with a '97 b18c1. Found out the loser I bought it from, sold me a motor with a bad headgasket. Took the head off and noticed, what possibly looked like bent exhaust valves? The cams are out, so all valves are only tensioned by the springs and retainers. Looks like all the exhaust valves are slightly past the valve seats...can anyone confirm my suspicion or am I being paranoid?

Look OK to me. It's normal for the valves not to fit flush to the chamber. To check to see if they seal well, turn the head so the deck is up and level, fill the chambers with some fluid (water is ok) and see if it runs into (or out of) the port. If so you need valve(s) or valve job. BTW the valves are always ONLY tensioned by the springs, cams in or out.

Been busy, but got back to this head and I determined 1 exhaust valve was definitely bent. Found this out while lapping and then doing a leak test after lapping.

The pictures I included show the the left most exhaust valve sticking out more than the rest. Took it out, spun it in my fingers, then I visually could see it was lopsided.

Now the problem I'm running into, is that these are unmarked, aftermarket, flat faced valves. Look to be nitride coated by the color? Also do companies like BC or S2 even sell valves individually?

I do have a full set of OEM domed GSR exhaust valves, but I'm unsure how that will affect the engine overall, with the flat faced intake valves.

Any opinions, facts, advice would be appreciated. As a side note I will say, I bought this GSR to put into my da9 and sell within a couple months. With that said, I'm trying not to spend a lot on something I'm not keeping past summer. I've already had to invest for a head gasket and valve seals.
