  • G2 Integra compatibility database effort

Given that OEM parts are being discontinued, I'm curious to know everyone's thoughts on if we should put some effort into creating a database of what parts will work when parts (both OEM and aftermarket) are discontinued for our older cars. This came to mind when I saw how the OEM oil filter has shrunk in size and actually states that it was being made compatible with other models. I can't believe how small it is now compared to the 90s! It actually made me feel uncomfortable with respect to its performance.

I could use some ideas on how to set this up. Have you thought about this before?

I like this idea. I'd like to basically sort data similar to the way the OEM Acura Parts sites do. Year->Model->Part Group with the BOM or exploded view of parts. Then once you find what you're looking for, have the oem part in one column, then 3 other columns. No modification necessary, some modification necessary, and major modification necessary. In each column, there could be parts numbers, with links (if available),

This definitely needs to be set up. I can't hardly find anything oem for parts anymore.

I had this idea also since it's hard to get G2 integra parts where I live. I have a little knowledge in php, html, etc., so if there's something I could help you with, let me know.

Yes! Fully support this! I tried to do something similar last year on a micro scale for the good ol' Passenger Side Water Leak replacement parts, (see the NAPA stand-in):

I'm open to options for how to do this. It looks like it will have to be in a table so people can search. Maybe we can do it via a Wiki embedded into G2IC so we can keep track of who is editing what and we wouldn't have to create new logins if it were on another site, etc.

Great idea! I may put those cowl clip part numbers to use already!

There's a book called the "Hollander Interchange" which is supposed to catalog parts that can be used interchangeably with other cars. I contacted the publisher to see what they would recommend. If they have already done most of the work, it will be worth the price. I'll use G2IC funds for it. I don't know if they include aftermarket part numbers, so we'll see.

I got a response from Hollander. The company recommended the electronic version, which happens to be the most expensive, but also because I think they cannot promote older versions of their hardcopy publications. It doesn't appear that much has changed with respect to new vs old parts for our cars. I'll look into the older hardcopies.

Just curious, what does the electronic version cost?

I love this idea - how to execute is beyond me though. I've tried multiple times to organize my parts and keep inventory but haven't been able to maintain those lists. It's even complicated by the fact that sometimes Honda changes part numbers.

I'd be interested to see what Hollander has. I've spent HOURS upon HOURS looking into part numbers, cross referencing, searching...etc and for most of the stuff I've been looking for have turned up nothing

$680. I haven't had the time to follow up since my last post. I think we could get by with an older version, but I wish I could get my hands on a copy before I drop hundreds of dollars on it. If nothing changed recently, I could get an older version. There's a 1995 version on eBay for $95. I would like to get something in the 2010 time frame because you know those parts are still being made. Therefore, if 2010 parts work on 1990-1993 Integras, that would be really valuable information.

Showmetheparts.com apparently is doing something similar.
