Finally have Vortech pics

It's pretty tight in this enginebay, I think I can fit a larger aftercooler reservoir in there somewhere. What for? So I can throw ice into it and dramaticly drop my intake air temps. Currently the only place to put ice would be that tiny fill resivoir next to the charger

I'll have another post soon to show you the dramatic xmember modification required to fit the Hi-tech header in without rubbing.

Yep that's my pickup next to my car, had I bought it sooner I probably could have finished my car months ago. Close the hood and this car looks completely stock.

You can just barely see the radiator for the water-to air intercooler peeking out under the front bumper. Try and do that with an intercooler.

More of an install pic, shows where I plumbed the radiator for the h2o to air intercooler (aftercooler). You can see my friends impala in the background, it actually looks like a bigger version of our cars without a wing and a trunk.


I am still planning to make an install webpage but I won't make a promise as to when, things are pretty busy for me but as soon as I find time I'll hammer out a good install guide.

Question. How's the ground clearance on that Hytech 4-2-1? And how long did it take to get it? Was it specifically made for a DA application? And are there any other mods needed besides the crossmember to fit it?

Are you still running the powersteering?

That engine bay is a "feat of engineering". The only way that you could make that thing any more tight, in the literal way, would be to add a Fluidyne. Props to you for getting it done, and congrats for illustrating a new level of patience with this chassis!!

Hey,

Very nice install! It looks like you put a lot of hard work into it. I noticed one thing that may help you. I see that you installed a "baby K&N" filter on your valve cover vent. If you leave it this way for a long time, eventually the unvented blowby can and/or will take away from the life of your piston rings. Don't ask me how I know! :-)

If possible, you might want to try connecting that valve cover vent to a non-pressurized port on the intake tube *before* the supercharger and after the air filter.

Great job. I appluad the massive balls you must have for buying that system thinking, "I'm gonna make it work." I've only known that feeling when painting my interior....once you start painting (in your case laying down the cash) there is no going back.

As far as hooking your PCV tube to the unpressurized part of your intake, I've seen a couple of people do this. But I'd be weary of having that crap all over the compressor. The best thing I've seen is using a catch can and then running the line to intake pre/compressor.

I believe MojoGSR has this done and did a write up. A search will bring it up for ya.

And is that a Type R valve cover or did you paint it yourself? If so, what color is that?

Yeah I was sweating a little when I dropped down the dinero for the Vortech kit. When I first thought of the Vortech kit I spent a week stopping by a local shop where a buddy of mine owned a 99SI and comparing engine bays. I bought the Vortech and the hi-tech header at the same time while I still had the cash on hand. After that it was much easier to save money for the rest, hondata sk2 IM 68mm Holley TB, fuel rail, FPR, fuel pump, 550cc injectors. I bought the Type R valve cover and put it on way to soon, I should have waited till I had the install done now I have some chips on it . Yeah I'll be working on a catchan at some point. I will also work on a how-to article.

B17Vortech looks good. I agree with Hyperrevsports you do need to run a hose from your valve cover to before your SC your piston rings do not very well with a filter done like that.
I would also recomend what DAY U IZ is talking about. If you put a catch can inline with the pvc you will catch all of the oil vaper that would normaly be fed into your intake. By doing this you can safely boost about 3psi more with no detotion.
