    obd0 to obd1 conversion

I'm swapping over to obd1 on my 91 for better tuning possibilities. Before I get going with getting everything ordered I want to know if it is required to switch to a obd1 distributor or if you can use the originial obd0. Also, is it required to get a 4 wire o2 sensor. I've done some searching but havent found a direct answer to what I'm looking for. Thanks.

check out rywire.com i believe it is. they sell conversion harnesses for the ecu and for the distributor. both are plug and play. you'd need an obd1 eco but can retain the obd0 distributor. and yes i believe you have to go to the 4 wire o2 sensor but all extra wires from the ecu are built into the conversion harness so all youd have to do is route new wires from the conversion harness down to the o2. be sure to solder those though to obtain the proper connection so you dont mess with resitance to and from the sensor. that'll will cause inaccurate readings if resistance isn't right

You said i can retain the obd0 dist. however on this site it says an obd1 is required.

So, still getting both sides. If I dont have to change the dist. I'd rather not, just replaced the distrubutor maybe 6-7,000 miles ago. Just want to make sure.

but i now see they dont offer it anymore. maybe try ebay for that part so you can keep the obd0 distr.

ok i was confused aparently the adapter is so you can plug your obd0 harness into a obd1 distributor so yeah you'll need a new distributor i think or you can just repin yours just need some plugs off a shot obd1 distributor i think you can do that on the obd0 but not 100% i did it on my obd1 distributor to make it obd2

You MUST use an obd1 distributor, an OBD0 dist will NOT function properly when wired to an OBD1 ecu.

THIS write-up is quite old, but most of the info is still relevant including the parts about the distributor requirements and wiring options.

I recommend searching before you post. I regularly search before I make a post just to confirm that I am, in fact, correct and that I have my details straight. It's a really good habit to get into that not only helps people learn more but helps prevent arguments and that sorta thing. If you don't have time to search, and you aren't 100% sure you know what you're talking about - don't post.

don't worry, not trying to grill you or anything, just a friendly suggestion - plus it'll make you look smarter too On forums no information is better than incorrect information as it just causes the original poster to go search on their own (which they should have done anyway).

Im in the process of converting my 90 to obd1 also. Why do I hear you don't have to run obd1 §§§§§ and some say you don't.

Colin JUST confirmed you NEED an OBD1 distributor.
